About Us
When teachers, students, and families come together around climate action, entire communities can tackle the intersectional issues of climate change with hope and agency.
Our Mission
C4CA’s mission is to support K-12 teachers and students to take local climate action. Teaching units and student civic engagement concentrate on local climate phenomena, social justice, and intersectional environmentalism.
C4CA is composed of retired teachers and community partners who work side by side with K-12 teachers. We focus on building student agency. As students build their skills as civic actors, they impact people of all ages to get involved in local climate solutions. Partnerships between schools, businesses and local governments evolve through student agency and student voice. Climate education is necessary and possible throughout the K-12 curriculum and can be integrated into every subject area. Teaching about climate solutions coordinates climate education around local efforts on mitigation, adaptation, and resilience.
Who?
C4CA is an intergenerational group of community members who are passionate about climate action. We are retired educators, college students, business partners, non-profit organizations, and municipalities who pull together to support teachers and students in local climate action.
How?
C4CA designs and teaches K-12 instructional units that focus on local climate phenomena and local climate solutions. We believe in intersectional environmentalism. We integrate social justice, climate science, climate solutions, and climate action into units that teachers are ALREADY teaching. Climate fits everywhere! We plan and teach side by side with teachers.
Why?
C4CA believes in students as civic actors. We help teachers and students to build their hope and agency by taking local climate action.
