Classroom Projects
Classroom Projects connect teachers and students to local climate action in order to make a difference in their own community.
C4CA is dedicated to supporting K-12 teachers as they integrate climate justice and climate action into their existing curriculum. Climate fits everywhere! Our secret sauce is utilizing the talents and capacity of retired teachers and other community members to extend student learning and impact beyond the classroom. Every unit is unique and connected to grade level standards and local climate phenomena. We use backward design and teach students the science, social justice, and advocacy skills they need to participate in making change in their own communities.
Using our framework to plan with teachers, here are a few examples of how we integrate climate action into teachers’ existing curriculum.
Kindergarten: Trees are Superheros for Climate Action
2nd grade: Beavers as a Climate Solution: Flood and Fire Mitigation
2nd grade: Protecting Pollinators is a Climate Solution
2nd grade: Don’t Call it Dirt: Soil Health for Climate Action
4th grade: Climate Justice and Flood Mitigation in our Neighborhood
4th grade: Our Government, Our Voice: Local Climate Action
5th grade: Fire mitigation as Climate Action: Removing Invasive Species
9th grade: Urban Heat: Trees, Shade, and Outdoor Learning Spaces
Retired Teachers and Community Members are a Climate Solution!
Let’s bring together those of us with bandwidth (young people and retirees) to support those with less bandwidth (working teachers)!
